Secrecy Equipment.

Both Shanghai and Manila propose to purchase

secrecy equipment, and under the circumstances it is

desirable that the contractors should be asked to quote for this additional equipment, separate quotations being provided for merely receiving "unscramblers" and for combined

transmitting "scramblers" and receiving "unscramblers".

Shanghai will be using Standard Telephone and Cable Co's Secrecy Equipment, and Manila the A.T. & T. Co's (Bell Equipment), so that whatever apparatus is quoted

must be capable of use in connection with these. It is

thought, however, that this apparatus is more or less of

standard design, nowadays, for Inter-System working.

Terminal Equipment.

Regarding the Terminal Equipment, which will be

installed at the Receiving Station, it should be pointed out that the use of other receivers for less important services

is probable rather than have constant wave changing. If it is possible provision should be made on the terminal equipment to enable different receiver outputs to utilise a common Terminal Equipment, in view of our single Transmitter.

In this connection also, and with the object of

standardisation, an additional quotation might be obtained from Marconi's W.T. Co. for a cheaper model of Telephony Receiver (with A.V.C.), which could be utilised for the less

used circuits.

Checking Apparatus.

Another point to be considered is the provision of checking apparatus for the Transmitter, in addition to the
